THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

Oulun Lyseon lukio (Upper Secondary School) has a wide language programme. It also teaches languages which are not usually taught in Finnish schools, such as Latin, Spanish, Estonian, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.

Objectives

Language teaching strongly introduces cultural awareness, internationalism and globalisation. School makes good co-operation with other schools in the province.

Approach

To Offer the opprotunity to learn different, also rare, languages at school.

Results

Students´ learning results are good both in clubs and the matriculation examination. Language teaching combines language, culture and modern technology.

THE NATIONAL AGENCY’S PERSPECTIVE

Motivations

Oulun Lyseo upper secondary school has a wide range of languages on offer. It provides language teaching in many less taught languages like Latin, Spanish, Estonian, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic. The languages teaching is strongly integrated into internationalisation, multiculturalism and globalisation. The schools cooperates actively with other local training institutions and it's students have received good learning results in learning clubs and in national examinations. Intercultural learning and the use of ICT have been succesfully combined into language teaching and distance learning methods have been used widely.
