I was impressed to see that the NELLIP project had produced a valuable set of guidelines for the planning and implementation of language education projects in four educational sectors: schools, vocational colleges, adult education and universities. The fact that these Guidelines derive from and refer to actual projects that have been run in different European countries and have been awarded the European Language Label makes the advice and recommendations that the Guidelines contain that much more valuable. There are too few handbooks on the design and management of educational projects, so the publication of the NELLIP Guidelines was very welcome.

The NELLIP workshop I attended was a really unusual opportunity to compare experiences of language education projects with others from very different backgrounds. While their experiences were quite different from my own, and their students’ needs were also quite dissimilar, the issues that we discussed and the experiences that we exchanged led us to realise that we had a lot in common. Apart from that, it was very interesting to learn about other areas of language education. The event made us think together about what kind of projects we could embark on in our respective contexts, and how we could try to ensure that the students involved got the most of their project experiences.

The deliverables of the NELLIP project are so planned that they cohesively enrich each other and offer an accurate search procedure to the interested persons. The project could be used as a foundation for various off springs such as – training courses for any of the categories above in connection to the improved approach to language learning/teaching, national and international workshops on directions to follow in the field of language education, network initiatives and events organization, etc.

As a professor at the Medical University in Iasi I train future doctors and nurses and I am interested to create new motivators for learning offered by new approaches and techniques. From this perspective I worked in the NELLIP project as an end beneficiary interested in piloting and possibly using the results of this project in my academic work and in a series of research activities directed to innovation in the field of language teaching and learning. I have been using a number of project deliverables both in draft and final form: the first deliverable was the portal itself, an excellent repository of innovative projects. Its usability in my own work increased at the moment when it was enriched with examples of illustrations of best practice projects. Due to its general organisation and the very friendly and easy navigation both myself and my students found this platform very user friendly. The database of projects awarded the European Language Label was another important and relevant deliverable from my personal point of view. Its organization and usability was always accompanied by quantity of data available. I was really impressed to notice the quality of contents available in all countries covered. The usefulness and applicability of the database in my own work has been maximized by the presence of many projects based on using new technologies for learning foreign languages, a topic my students are very keen to learn more about. The case studies and the best practices were very useful as a collection of quality projects. As I am also very concerned with research in the area of innovation in the teaching and learning foreign languages and I widely participate in international and national conferences I found it very inspiring to read and store information from the national and transnational reports to use when needed in my research. I have already used the national and international reports for one of my research plans that deal with innovation in the approaches to foreign languages. I can also use the transnational reports and the guidelines as resources for my recent article in the else conference 2015 which deals with ICT innovation in education. The results of the NELLIP project are relevant for my academic activity and for my research in strategies and innovation.

The results of the NELLIP project are relevant because they set the foundations for a self-evaluation of the quality of the project work we carried out, they offer a good range of project ideas that meet needs in various contexts and which could still be exploited and they offer a country-based inventory of the progress of the work in the field of languages along the last 12-15 years. The fact that the project offers a wide geographical coverage is both strength and a weakness: it covers a wide number of the EU countries but not all of them. The national reports are focused on the needs of the countries studied and the transnational report summarizes the main features of EL awards at EU level; the quality guidelines offer a relevant checklist for whoever is interested to measure or receive guidance in project work. I think that the NELLIP project offers a very reliable insight to practitioners and strategic decision makers.

As a person involved in EU projects in the last 15 years and focused on how to increase the impact of these projects, I have found that the European Language Label was an inspired recognition of the quality of the projects, which contributes to their visibility and further impact when they are completed. The idea of a project bringing together in a coherent structure the laureates from all the EE countries had been conceived a long time before the NELLIP project won the grant for its implementation. In my recent report about our school linguistic strategy I used the NELLIP national report among other reference materials and found inspirational directions and recommendations there. We found out about the NELLIP project and the workshop from Facebook. As we were interested in the topic we took advantage of the opportunity offered and participated in the workshop, which opened the doors to invaluable information and easy to follow examples. Some years ago we applied for a project grant; we thought the project was based on a fabulous idea; its outcomes would have had a lot of benefits for our students and teachers. The application was rejected. We didn’t know why. We felt very disappointed because we had invested a lot of time and effort in writing it. We felt frustrated because we considered it good and we didn't know why it failed. We were not aware of the standards, criteria we had to meet or the priorities we had to consider. We were about to give up embarking on a new attempt. The NELLIP workshop helped us a lot. We went through all the materials provided and realized that we could do it.

I have looked through the data bases and I have found some interesting projects that deal with CLIL. I also read the national report and the transnational one and I have found out the big differences in treatment of the ELL in different countries, a fact that has puzzled me. I definitely liked the workshops and to my big surprise, I have found out that colleagues from universities did not know about the ELL possibility and about the fact that some of the running projects in their universities could have become very good candidates for any ELL call.

The NELLIP Project opens your mind and gives you an idea of how flexible language learning, and education in general, can be. The different practices make teachers aware of the fact that there are many things they can do and motivate them to implement these ideas, even if it takes a lot more time and effort. There is not just one method to which students should adapt, but endless possibilities to adjust the methodology to their level, skills, sector, professional needs or cultural background. As a teacher of English as a foreign language, I found the workshops especially helpful, as a source of ideas and fruitful debate. Listening to other teachers was helpful, not only to collect ideas, but also to reflect and come up with our own. Teachers should also be involved in lifelong learning and training, so as to get to know educational trends, what is being done in other places and how to adapt to new contexts. I think teamwork was really encouraging and a way to practice our oral skills too in a cooperative atmosphere. All in all, both working on the NELLIP Project and attending its events, have been a highly recommended teaching and learning experience.

We were very happy to participate in the NELLIP workshop. The Experts were very professional. They gave a brief description of the methodological principles in language teaching. We were also pleased with the organization, stated objectives, the facilitators and the practical activities of the workshop. The interaction level in the group of participants was very high too. For example, the participants of the workshops worked in small groups and defined specific improvement plans addressed to language initiatives and projects.
