DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION |
EAQUALS is an international association of providers and organisations involved in language teaching, which is registered as a charitable trust in the UK. It was founded in 1991 with the primary mission of promoting high quality in the teaching and learning of languages, and supporting quality improvement and the exchange of expertise through its activities.
EAQUALS has developed a unique international system for quality assurance which is used to accredit language course providers which are found to meet EAQUALS standards in audits that take place every four years. The association is currently made up of over 104 institutions in 26 countries, as well as 23 associate members and six project partners.
EAQUALS organises two annual conferences, and offers many resources to its members and others. These include a self-assessment handbook for institutions wishing to join EAQUALS, numerous documents and self-help guides related to the implementation of the principles and level system of the Common European Framework for Languages, an electronic European Language Portfolio created in partnership with ALTE the draft Profiling Grid for Language Teachers, a draft Framework for Language Teacher Training and Development, and self-help guides on staff management.
EAQUALS works in partnership with, among others, the Council of Europe on the linguistic integration of adult migrants, and with ISO on the development of international standards for ‘learning services’. It is a member of the ECML Professional Network Forum.
