DESCRIPTION
OF THE ORGANISATION
Omnia, The Joint Authority of Education in Espoo Region, is a multisectoral educational organisation owned by municipalities of Espoo, Kauniaianen and Kirkkonummi. Omnia organises Upper Secondary Vocational Education of 120 credits (3 years) and Preparatory Training for Competence-Based Qualifications. Omnia has approximately 10000 students and 700 personnel at the moment and it functions at five different institutes: Omnia Vocational College, Omnia Adult Education Centre, Omnia Apprenticeship Training Centre, Omnia Youth Workshops and Innoomnia-centre for innovation and entrepreneurship. Six training sectors are provided at Omnia: Culture; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences, Business Economics and Administration; Technology and Transport; Social Services, Health and Sport; Tourism, Catering and Domestic Services.

Omnia is a powerful actor in Uusimaa region in Finland and it’s also a worldwide well-known project partner, especially in Europe. Omnia cooperates closely with towns, chamber of commerce, organisations of entrepreneurs and trade unions in education and training and frustration and discrimination. Omnia communicates closely through councils with firms, associations and organisations of labour market. Omnia also co-operates with the other education institutes of Uusimaa and with the Finnish National Board of Education.

Omnia has been awarded with the Leonardo da Vinci Certificate in Mobility for its student mobility project Omnia Onni and expert mobility expert Onni. The Leonardo da Vinci Certificate in Mobility is a recognition of the capacity of an institution to implement a Leonardo da Vinci mobility project of excellent quality. The quality aspects cover the content of the mobility activity (policy, strategy, work programme) as well as the operational and financial capacity of the institution.

Omnia was the co-ordinator of Language Label Awarded Leonardo da Vinci project Ready-Study-Go! (project number FI-05-B-F-LA-160606). The project planned a virtual e-learning system for language and cultural training before an on-the-job learning period. The online material was developed by teams of vocational and language teachers. This enabled development of language teaching integrated with vocational content.
EXPERIENCE OF THE ORGANIZATION IN PREVIOUS EUROPEAN PROJECTS Omnia is involved from year 1997 in several language projects on national and international level. Main focus has been the development of online methods and materials for language learning in vocational training. These methods enable students’ individual choices for language and culture learning according to their interests and vocational orientation.

The language competence project “POP – Personal Online Paths” (funded by Leonardo programme 2002-2004, carried out by Kati Valtonen as project manager) has brouhgt its results and best practices to the use of Ready Study Go – project. The main activities of the POP-project were the development of a pedagogical framework for online tutoring, creation of online materials for language learning (Finnish, Spanish, English and French), creation of a teacher training module and piloting the materials.

Vocational and language teachers gathred matherial from different European countries between year 2003 to year 2005 for LdV movility project Culture Coach by using SWOT –methods.The results of the studies indicate clearly that cultural knowledge and social skills are very important for on-the-job learners and these skills can be improved by well conducted cultural coaching.

In addition Omnia has been partner in Vocal project.It was carried out by the Irish Institute of Tralee (years 2007-2009) http://www.vocalproject.eu/ .The Vocal product consists of web-based materials on nine topics – working, accommodation, emergencies, travel, socialising and four language for specific topics – banking, business, engineering, tourism. mnia is coordinating the Ready-Study-Go- Ahead! project. The materials from ealier project (Ready Study Go!) will be updated and there will be three new languages available.
EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE OF THE ORGANIZATION IN THE PROJECT’S SUBJECT AREA Omnia has received the European Label for Language on year 2008. CONTRIBUTIONS THAT CAN BE PROVIDED TO THE PROJECT Omnia has large national and international networks with VET providers and with many associations as well as with the public bodies (National Board of Education, National Agencies etc.) It is a well-known VET provider and the largest one in Espoo region. The persons that will be involved in NELLIP have also worked in both Ready Study Go projects. They have a long experience of working in and coordinating international and national projects as well as working in international and national networks.

Omnia can use of its numerous national and international contacts and networks for NELLIP purposes. Close contacts to the National Board of Education which helps to provide visibility and public interest for the project activities. Expertise of solid project experience, language teaching and project administration guarantee a good basis for the project work and for the transnational cooperation
REASONS OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROJECT Omnia has received the European Label for Language Projects in 2008 for the project Ready Study Go! the Linguistic Cultural Coaching in Initial Vocational Training. It has continued the work with a Transfer of Innovation Project Ready Study Go Ahead! (Years 2009-2011). Both projects were funded by the LdV. Omnia has strong connections to the National Board of Education in Finland as well as to most of the Finnish VET providers. This enables it to gather relevant information of the language projects and of the results for NELLIP as well as helps when disseminating and promoting the outcomes and best practices of the NELLIP project.

Kati Valtonen:
Project Services Manager in Omnia, Language teacher and Project Manager in various national and international projects.

Qing Gu, graduated in International Business from the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, started working at Itella for multitasks job in different department since year 2008. She started working as Project Assistant at Omnia in October 2011. Qing Gu has been assisting the International Project activities as well as she is responsible for making financial report, planning for the budget for different project together with managers/coordinators.
