YLVA
A language program that provides foreign doctors Danish language skills when employed at hospitals in Denmark. The project title is Ylva: Young Doctors' Training Activities for foreign doctors.
Ylva, Young Doctors 'Further education Activities for foreign doctors, is a project focused on qualified foreign doctors' communicative and sociocultural competence, focusing on Danish language, communication and medical culture in employment in Denmark. The education is very practice-oriented and includes authentic material such as records and patient interviews. It is the aim to ensure that foreign doctors are integrated and thus remain in the Danish health system.
The background of the project was a series of lessons and observations from hospitals in Aarhus and Viborg, which identified a need for upgrading the skills of younger foreign doctors in terms of communicative competence in relation to both communication with patients / relatives and communication with other health professionals.
Moreover, there appeared a need for a better understanding of the Danish hospital culture.
The project is implemented by Lærdansk Aarhus and Viborg Language Center. Other project partners are Region QLD-Corporate HR, Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus Hospital, Regions Hospital, Viborg, NSW Medical Association, Inside Denmark, HR departments at Viborg Hospital and University Hospital of Aarhus / Aarhus Hospital.
