The Rainbow people
The project "The Rainbow people" was implemented in a second class (Montessori course) of Lower Secondary School, I. C. Soprani Castelfidardo, with pupils aged 12. The project aimed to: enlarge multilingual and multicultural competences enhancing the European dimension of education; develop socio-cultural topics as the defence of human rights, intercultural dialogue, respect, tolerance and cooperation to solve problems; enrich creative, performing competences through music, dance and singing. CLIL methodology was used, the integration between the foreign language and the content being facilitated by an interactive teaching approach enhanced by a cooperative management of the class. Team-working was a fundamental aspect of the project: collaboration between teachers offered the opportunity to share methodological resources, strategies, good practices. A CLIL Learning Unit was prepared, completed in each stage: planning, monitoring its development and evaluating the processes and the outcomes. The project contributed to increase pupils’ motivation, interest and inclusion and it developed their social relationships, their abilities to work cooperatively. The greater quantity and quality of language exposure improved the students’ level of language proficiency, strengthened and enriched communicative and performing capacities.
