Vigrestad School/School 1213, Moscow
A class of 15-year-olds Norwegian teenagers from Vigrestad worked with Russian pupils on a book project. By using e-mail, letters and video letters, the pupils followed a process-driven approach, working in groups, and exchanged drafts of chapters. They shared experiences of growing up in their respective countries, starting with topics such as hobbies, fashion, eating habits, role models, surveys of attitudes to various issues and the big news stories as they have affects to the pupils. Through a steering group, the Norwegian pupils shared responsibilities for the project and its educational content with the teachers. Simple ICT facilitated these activities, notwithstanding the different technical situations in these two countries. The project was highly motivational in educational terms by creating a genuine communication situation. The pupils had to evaluate both the content and the linguistic meanings with a real recipient in mind. Through extensive responsibilities and participation, the pupils attracted stakeholders’ interests of the project, this also enhanced the progress and its educational content in the wider sense. Themes of the project: Intercultural awareness (any language) Teaching of a second language
Consistency with the European policies in the field of language learning
