Language Bridges

This project is intended for beat and traffic police officers, for whom the ability to communicate intelligibly in a foreign language can be a great help. This course is designed to help prevent situations where a third party must help out in dealing with ordinary situations, or cases where police rather ignore a problem or a trivial situation spirals out of control due to misunderstanding. The result of the project is a set of multimedia textbooks in English, German, Russian and Romany, which in the long-term should help contribute to improving communication between police officers and foreigners and minorities. The textbooks focus particularly on specialised terms and practising concrete situations – for example communicating with tourists, dealing with a theft, traffic checks, misdemeanours and issuing a fine.
