SpEakWise

SpEakWise combines new technologies (WebCT, Moodle, Survey Monkey, Video-conferencing) with more traditional approaches to teaching and learning. The aim is to raise cultural awareness and pragmatic linguistic competence. Third-level students develop their intercultural communication skills through the target language in partnership with students following the same course in another European university. Participants are final-year students of Business Studies and German. SpEakWise enables students to explore and test intercultural communication and to engage in problem-solving and decision-making in German. Activities include non-participant observation, critical incident analysis, discourse completion tests, reflective journal writing and video-conference negotiation.
