THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE
We live in neighbouring countries but we don't know each other well enough (teachers and pupils). Through the project we'd like to learn more about our culture, traditions and educational systems. Share experience in PE and language teaching, especially approaches to sports and recreation in education of V4
countries. There are several traditional ball games, now almost forgotten. We'd like to bring them back to school practice and edit a guidebook to compare our traditions with partner countries. The booklet will include a multilingual dictionary of sports terms.
Target groups and groups benefiting from the project:
National teams of 12 pupils (6 girls & 6 boys) + 2 teachers (PE & English), from
Poland as a host country: extra 2 coordinating teachers (1PE, 1English), an ICT
teacher & 1additonal pupil supporting ICT (60 people all together).
The project aims at developing sustainable international cooperation of V4
interested parties on three levels: teachers - teachers; teachers - pupils; and
pupils - pupils.
The project is based on the organisation of a summer school in Poland gathering representatives of partner schools (teachers and pupils) and getting them to work together.
- Stage1: establishing eTwinning partnership (platform for members to communicate, share ideas and work on planes, upload materials and results of project research, etc.).
- Stage 2: collecting information on traditional ball games in partner countries (interviews with elder family members, teachers, PE academics, etc.), practicing games with pupils at school and preparing instructions in mother tongue and English to allow students teaching the games to their peers during the gathering. At the same time collecting words and phrases for the dictionary.
- Stage 3: a 7-day long meeting in Poland; main activities: teaching and learning traditional ball games, competition at the end; teaching and learning English and basics of V4 languages through games; knowing our culture (national evenings); other outdoor activities and sightseeing programme; collecting material for the guide and the dictionary (photos and video clips); issuing a newsletter.
- Stage 4: promoting campaign at school and in society (pupils, teachers, parents, schools in the area, local authorities) to advertise the project (posters, fliers, announcements at parents' meetings); organizing a Visegrad fair with competition in the games learnt in the meeting & a chance for visitors to try playing + exhibition of photographs from camp.
- Stage 5: editing & publishing the multilanguage guide & dictionary, distribution-school libraries).
The project results include:
- better understanding of partners' countries culture, knowledge of V4 educational systems and renewal of some traditional ball games to everyday school practice
- development of English language skills for both teachers and pupils involved in project activities at any stage.
- a guide + dictionary – it could be used by anyone interested in sports or looking for sports terminology in one of the languages used in the publication.
- relationship built between the participating parties as a foundation for future cooperation directed at combating prejudice, teach tolerance and respect to others.

THE NATIONAL AGENCY’S PERSPECTIVE
The original idea was to explain the national ball games to the classmates from Poland and Hungary. The language of communication was English in the beginning, but later j the bases of Polish and Hungarian were added.. The project is the combination of the use of ICT ( the schools used for communication eTwinning platform) and includes sports, cultural and sightseeing activities. The project meets the priority: Using ICT in Language Teaching.
