THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE
The project addresses the need of communication in foreign languages. It gives the opportunity for individual realisation and at the same time work in a team, for education through creativity and at the same time practical application of the already gained knowledge.
The project is directed at high school students. The target language is English.
The main goal of the project is to address the need of communication in foreign languages.
The teaching goals of the project include:
- Developing communication competences in their basic aspects – grammar, sociolinguistics, strategy
- Change in the roles of the teacher and student in the classroom – the teacher organises the activity and the students solve a given task – writing a script for a play
- Development of the “teaching through advising” approach
- Development of the “teaching through cooperation” approach
- Development of language skills with focus on pronunciation (aiming at reaching a level close to “native speakers”)
The project activities were organised as follows:
- Writing scripts for plays in English on chosen topics or based on works of famous English or American authors, included in the work programme
- Announcing the project and the requirements 2 months in advance
- The scripts are being evaluated according to the following criteria: creativity, coherence, grammar and range of vocabulary, presentation. The students evaluate the performance of each play anonymously based on specific criteria: intonation and pronunciation, originality, etc.
- A “favorite play” is being chosen as well as best actor and actress of the class.
- Organising a Week of the English language and literature during which the most active students are awarded.
The project’s methodology gives broad possibilities for complex application of language skills and competences. The project gave entirely new directions also in the teaching of a second foreign language.
The decision for application for European Language Label came as a result of the success of the initiative and the efficiency of the developed methods. The expectations were in respect to broader dissemination of the project idea and results.
The project methodology continued to be applied with students from the First English Language School.
Information about the award was uploaded and is still available on the website of the promoter of the initiative, First English language School, Sofia, Bulgaria.
The expectations for the impact following the award of the European Language Label were met partially, mainly on national level.
ELL applicants should get familiar with the publish priorities and award criteria well in advance in order to be able to take them into consideration during the implementation of their project/initiative. The application procedure afterwards is easy.

The project is in consistency with the Europeans policies in the field of language learning because its activities are aimed at enhancement of the quality of language teaching and promotion of new approaches to language teaching and learning
THE NATIONAL AGENCY’S PERSPECTIVE
The project was original, innovative and with good impact results. It corresponded to a full extent to the yearly priorities which European Language Label applicants should have addressed in the selection year in question.

Message: A good example of drama techniques in language learning - it reminds me of \'Theatergruppe Babylon\' (Germany 2011), but in this case the learners are younger and also involved in preparing scripts. It was also good that it focused on oral production and pronunciation by getting learners to \'perform\'.
