Brief description
Multimedia e–platform for the democratic learning of foreign languages is a project that promotes intercultural education and language learning using new approaches based on strategies and courses produced jointly by teams from Belgium, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Romania. A special aspect of the project consist in addressing a significant number of students belonging to disadvantaged groups such as those from isolated mountain communities (students from Romania and Poland) or those from multi-ethnic families, workers with multicultural background or economically disadvantaged migrants (students from Italy and Portugal). The online learning platform offers them a new cultural and educational perspective.

THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

Lang platform is a multilateral Comenius project running from 2009 to 2011 which aims to promote European intercultural education based on learning foreign languages and facilitating interdisciplinarity.
The project is financed by the Common Europe has been involved besides Italian school other five European partners like The Agrupamento de Escolas de Vialonga in Porugal ; the Publiczne Gimnazjum Francizka Becinskiego of Radziejow in Poland; Liceul Teoretic “ Mihail Kogalniceanu “ of Vaslui (the coordinator) and the Scoala Cu Clasele I-VIII Oantu – Pingarati both in Romania.
This project called “ Multimedia E- Platform for the Democratic Learning of Languages" has the aim to prepare a multimedia platform for the learning of foreign languages - English, French, Spanish and Italian thanks to the information technologies too. The coordinator of the Project in Frosinone is Anna Maria Montuori , teacher of Italian language - the other team members are : Luciana Mancini and Aurora Sacchi , teachers of English; Rafaella Fallerini and Pilar Temino, teachers of Spanish; Onorata Coletta , teacher of Italian; Antonio De Lucia and Giulia Pica, teachers of Music and Natalia Pechivandou from Greece, a French language assistant .
The main intend of the project is to promote the cross cultural understanding of education , through the learning of foreign languages, the use of the new information technologies by an e-learning plan shared with the other educational institutions involved in the partnership in order to make easy the interdisciplinary learning methods and the knowledge between the European level and the global level of the new techniques. Using the platform of the project on Internet will integrate the learning of foreign languages and encourages the study, allowing the distance learning also that the lifelong learning.

Objectives

The objectives of the project are:

to promote European intercultural education based around the learning foreign languages and the intensive application of new technologies,
to facilitate interdisciplinarity as way of improving knowledge of Europe,
to create an alternative way of learning, which can also be applied to distance learning or courses with reduced contact time.

Approach

The objectives of the multilateral project Comenius “Multimedia E-Platform for the democratic learning of the foreign languages” are: to promote the European intercultural education based on learning foreign languages, the intensive application of the new technologies and to facilitate interdisciplinarity as way of getting knowledge at a European and global level. Another objective is to create an alternative of learning, which can also be applied in the distance learning or with reduced attendance. The partners of this project (schools in Romania, Italy, Portugal, Poland), coordinated by Alexandru MITA/Theoretical High School “Mihail Kogalniceanu” from Vaslui/Romania, will collaborate to obtain the following end products: a) e-learning platform Claroline type in all the institutions involved in the project, implemented as intranet in the first stage and as common site, in the second stage; b)new e-learning methodology and electronic manuals of teaching-learning French, English, Spanish and Italian on a large spectrum (from 6 to 19 years old), according to the national curricula from the countries in partnership; c) good practice manual based on the project experience; d)a course support for in-service training for teachers of foreign languages. The approach of achieving the objectives and the final products will be supported by specific activities, a permanent cooperation and communication between the institutions, corresponding to the practical application of a common and complex dissemination and evaluation strategy. The project will last for two years: 1/08/2009 – 31/07/2011.

Results

he partners of this project (schools in Romania, Italy, Portugal, Poland), coordinated by Alexandru Mita of the Theoretical High School “Mihail Kogalniceanu” in Vaslui, Romania, are working to develop the following products:

an e-learning platform for all the institutions involved in the project, implemented as an intranet in the first stage and as a public site, in the second stage;
a new e-learning methodology and electronic text books for teaching and learning French, English, Spanish and Italian for learners aged from 6 to 19 years old in line with the national curricula of the participating countries;
a good practice manual based on experience acquired in the project;
material for in-service training for teachers of foreign languages.

Activities following the award of the European Language Label

The coordinator of the multilateral Comenius project "Multimedia E-Platform" was selected by an international Jury to participate to the 2nd Congress of International Federation of French Teachers from Prague (7-10th of September 2011). There, he represented Romania, the Romanian French Teachers Association, but also the multilateral Comenius project, because his scientific communication was about using the project platform in teaching French language.
