basic information
THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE
The project is based in the border region Neisse-Nisa-Nysa where German, Polish, Czech and Sorbian are spoken. It aims to encourage the learning of neighbour languages and to "build bridges" between children in the different countries through an enjoyable approach to language learning.
The aim of the project “Learning in a playful way – Crossing borders” was to develop and to put to the test new suggestions in order to support educators that introduce children to the languages of their respective neighbours: experts from all linguistic areas cooperated in developing in the four languages the educational game “Schatzsuche - Treasure Hunt” about the European region and its languages.
The emphasis was on enjoyment by developing games - such as an international "Treasure Hunt" - and through cross-border events and conferences where children, parents and teachers had regular contact, so that this kind of communication became a normal feature of educational experience.
The emphasis of the project is on the experiences rather than concrete results. The success lay more in the enjoyment of participants in evenst such as a Euroregional Leraning Festival, with the Motto "Lust, unsere Nachbarn zu verstehen" - the desire to understand our neighbours.
The approach is one that could easily be transferred to other border areas
The project was based on a regional approach to European citizenship and communication, and therefore the label enabled it to be publicised, and perhaps to inspire other similar initiatives
The award winner Pontes continues to work in the area of cross-border education. We initiate and design concrete plans and projects to develop a modern cross-border educational region in the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa and work together with our partners on their realization.

Message: This was a great way of raising the awareness and developing the language skills in an area where various languages are spoken. A very good example of how language activities and other subjects in the curriculum can be integrated in play-based way.
