THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE
Lanterna Futuri is an intercultural project for interaction and education in the border triangle Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, where students and teachers have regularly worked together in artistic workshops since 2004.
The project was initiated by the Großhennersdorf Threeland Convention Centre (Germany), the Parada Three Cultures House in Niedamirów (Poland) and the Rodowitz Civic Association (Czech Republic), which collaborated closely with secondary schools in Herrnhut, Česká Lípa and Kamenná Hora and together pursued a long-term goal: to achieve and structurally ensure a connection of extracurricular and curricular forms of teaching.
To develop new forms of teaching that fortify intercultural competence, responsibility, creativity and the ability to work in a team.
The main import of the project is for students and teachers from the border area to meet and get to know one another through collaboration on one theme. In this way the participants have the chance to acquaint themselves with other cultures and become aware of the the specificity of the border region.
Students at the age of 16 and 17 work in international groups of 10-15 members.
In the workshops, students in mixed groups create joint photographic, cinematographic, theatrical, musical, design, artistic and journalistic products. The educational modules, which are realised in collaboration with the partner associations and schools, have become a fixed part of the school curriculum since 2006 and form the basis for further work.
For the time being 1,342 people from different places in Saxony, northern Bohemia and Lower Silesia worked together in 209 international workshops.
About 275 pupils from 13 classes have participated. The project has been integrated into the school curriculum of the second-year students as practical project lessons.
The artistic workshops of one week's duration take place simultaneously twice a year in each country involved.
For ensuring greater visibility of the project, its products and achieved results.
In 2012, the project “Lanterna Futuri” was nominated to represent the Czech Republic at the Label of the Labels ceremony held in Cyprus on 26-28 September 2012. The project was selected for its significant multicultural dimension and ongoing positive impact on intercultural competencies.
Better visibility of the project as well as greater sustainability of the results were achieved.
The most important thing to consider while applying for a ELL is the clear description of the project as well as a description of the innovation of the products developed and their applicability with the target groups
