THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE
The project seeks to provide language learning materials for young children aged 4 to 10 in four languages - English, German, French and Russian.
The idea is to promote young children's language learning in an enjoyable way and at the same time to give them an opportunity to learn how to use modern interactive devices. It seeks to reinforce pre-reading skills among young children and to provide early opportunities for contact with foreign languages even in monolingual families.
The Ridili stories are designed to appeal to young children. Here is how they describe their use:
Ten reasons why children need Ridis – and need them pretty often:
Ridis are innovative picture books that children can watch, listen to and interact with.
Ridis are books with genuinely beautiful pictures and original stories.
Ridis can make sounds and allow you to move figures and objects on every page.
Ridis read children stories to kids whenever and as often as they like.
Ridis read stories when Mom and Dad are too busy — or when Grandma or Grandpa can't find their glasses.
Ridis don't necessarily have to read out loud, they can also let the child read independently.
Ridis allow your child to tune into new languages and to learn them.
Ridis can help a child to bridge waiting times: At the doctor's office, in the train, plane, car or restaurant. Ridis are also practical for sitting out bad weather.
Ridis fit nicely in Mom's purse or Dad's pant pocket, as many as you like.
Ridis can be acquired without having to go to a bookstore or worrying about store opening hours.
The emphasis is on the flexibilty of use, the accessibility of them and of the way in which they help children learn as they think they are playing.

All of these are available in four languages. As they are used in informal contexts there is no formal evaluation.
They are original in the way they use modern applications in animaginative way and are unique in being designed to be enjoyed autonomously by very young children

THE NELLIP NETWORK’S PERSPECTIVE
The Ridili products are different from most Language Label Awards as they are produced by a commercial company not a school. They are innovative - catering for the learning o flanguages by ypoung children in an enjoyable way, which has not been achieved elesewhere. They are easy and practical to use, and encourage plurilingual approaches.
The 2012 priorities put the emphasis on imaginative ways of using new media in language learning and these applications correspond to the way in which mobile applications are becoming widespread.
THE NATIONAL AGENCY’S PERSPECTIVE
The jury put the emphasis on the quality of the applications, the authenticity of the stories and the way in which they appealed to young children in a way which encourages early contact with and liking for languages
