THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

The small general upper secondary school offers an extensive language teaching programme.

Objectives

The objective is to raise students' interest for learning languages. The target languages are English, French and German.
The school puts a special emphasis on the knowledge of the target country's culture.

Approach

An inspiring factor for students is an applied course on oral skills, culture and knowledge of the country (Landeskunde) which is offered to students of English, French and German.A part of the course is a study trip abroad. There is a good co-operation between the upper secondary school of Ylistaro and the schools in Estonia, Norway and Sweden. Teachers can use language labs, computers, Internet and videos in their teaching.

Results

The students are motivated and committed to language studies, choices of languages are extensive and learning results are good.
