THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

Description of the context and of the needs the initiative responds to
Reasons for selecting the specific thematic area, target group and target language(s).
Romanian students needed practical experience in a bigger greenhouse than the one the school has. They also needed to see the activities in a bull farm, because they don’t have one in Oravita. And, the most important, the exchange with an international partner was most needed. The Portuguese partner provided the technical and the language training in a real work environment.

Objectives

1. Enhancing technical competencies of future technicians in the agricultural field.
2. learning how to use specific tools and installations;
3. discovering innovative techniques used by the partners.
4. developing language, intercultural and transversal competencies.
5. promoting a European Curricula in the field of agriculture.

Approach

One initial meeting took place in Romania, one year before the pupils’ mobility. The Portuguese partner came to Oravita and the two parties thoroughly planned the mobility.
The evaluation strategy consisted in testing pupils’ skills acquired in Portugal in the small greenhouse the Grup Scolar Agricol Oravita has.

Results

Training sessions and activities in real professional situations.
The Impact of the project consisted in sharing the pupils’ experience and skills acquired in Portugal among other pupils in our school. A new initiative will take place in October 2012 with another Romanian school from Moldova Noua.

Why the European Language Label?

The Promoter considered that the Project was very useful for the pupils and students involved directly, as well as for their colleagues with whom they shared experience and the language learning experience was very fruitful. So, the Promoter wanted to share with other language teachers this teaching / learning method.

Activities following the award of the European Language Label

Experience sharing within the school and with local initiatives were carried out. A new workshop, with a Grup Scolar from Moldova Noua, is planned In Oct 2012.

Assessment of the Impact of the European Language Label

Teachers realized the importance of teaching / learning a foreign language in a real professional environment and try to adapt their methods as much as possible.

Recommendations for future applicants for the ELL

Future applicants should take as partners promoters who already have this experience.

THE NELLIP NETWORK’S PERSPECTIVE

Consistency with European Policies in the field of Language Learning

The project is consistent with the current policies. It is focused on learning mobilities, it aims at improving employment-related languages skills, it involves teaching / learning methodologies specific to VET, it includes less-widely used languages (English and Portuguese) and a cultural dimension in a professional field (work relationships in a multicultural team).

Consistency with European, National and yearly priorities

The project is consistent with the European, National and yearly priorities.
It provides added value, it motivates the students and the teachers to improve their language skills, it is original and creative.

Message: I think that it is a very good idea to promote the inter cultural approach and to stimulate the know-how exchange between countries and cultures. This is what this project aims, and it targets some very clear objectives such as: how the future technicians in the agricultural fields can enhance better technical competences , discovering new techniques that partners in the project from other countries often use, developing inter cultural and transversal competencies that are so very useful, and of course, from my point of view the most important asset that is being created by this project is an European Curricula in the field of Agriculture.
