Title of the Project
Integrated French Language and Subject Learning
Brief description
A teacher development programme for bilingual education and content and language integrated learning has been designed and implemented. The programme included in-service courses in France, language courses in Lithuania, and teacher development consultations. A syllabus for a course in French proficiency has been developed for grade 9; a French proficiency course is being taught by a visiting French native-speaker teacher and a Lithuanian teacher of French. Within the framework of collaboration agreement between the school and the French Cultural Centre in Lithuania, the 9th formers of Alytus Dzukija school have visited France; links for further cooperation have been established with Gardane Lyceum.

THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

Alytus Dzukija school implemented a complex French language integrated learning that included the development of CLIL programmes, exchanges of pupils, teacher training , exchanges / vesits of native speakers - teacher from France

Objectives

- prepare several CLIL programmes ( primary and secondary education)
- establish cooperation / links with various educational institutions in France
- set up and run a CLIL method centre for teachers of various subjects
- promote extensive use of ICT

Approach

All activities were planned and monitored throughout the project. The project promoters used various professional support ( The French Cultural centre, consulting and in-service training

Results

- higher quality language teaching/learning;
- new methods of teaching subjects ( history, geography) based on critical reflection;
- extensive exchages of students and staff
- methodical centre

Activities following the award of the European Language Label

- participation in Comenius 1.2 projects
- interest and motivation to apply for other projects
