basic information
Title of the Project
Teastas Eorpach na Gaelige
Brief description
Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge is a testing and certification system, the first of its kind, for adult learners of Irish. For the first time, adult learners of Irish can obtain a qualification with Europe-wide recognition. The Language Centre at NUIM is the Irish member of ALTE (The Association of Language Testers in Europe), set up to develop transnational standards for the different elements of language assessment. ALTE members currently offer examinations in 26 languages, which are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, and Assessment. All of the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing –are assessed.

Message: I would like to join a similar course. Even though I don\'t really need a certificate, I think it enhances motivation among students. Besides, to provide European recognition is also beneficial for the Irish language.

Message: To certify language skills for adult learners is a good practice we should share in Italy too, where adult education is often left to learners\' personal desire to learn.
