Languages Together

In 2007 literacy levels at Porter Croft Church of England Primary Academy in Sheffield were considerably below average. 'Talk for Learning' was adopted as the key strategy for improvement and underpins all teaching throughout the school. The Talk approach has strong parallels with the spirit, aims and methodology of the Key Stage 2 Modern Foreign Language (MFL) framework. Teachers at the school created MFL and English modules to reflect and reinforce the learning objectives for grammar and genres for the mutual benefit of teaching and learning in both languages, and embedding MFL in the whole school curriculum
