Talk to me - Listen to me!

Latvia, Poland and Germany are involved in the international project “Talk to me – Listen to me”. Pupils aged 15 - 19 took part in the project. The goal of the project was to encourage pupils to learn languages and develop a teaching aid for mastering speaking skills in Latvian, Polish and German, to enhance the understanding of culture and traditions of other countries, motivate pupils to acquire the languages at such a level so that they could practically communicate in the countries involved in the project. During the project the pupils worked on 15 topics in 3 languages. Each topic consisted of dialogues, grammar exercise, and vocabulary from the dialogues. The project lasted for one year - the pupils worked together twice in Latvia, once in Poland and Germany. Before starting the project, the pupils exchanged e-mails to get to know each other better and to learn more about the countries of cooperation. Staying in host families also gave a possibility not only to get to know the every day life, but also traditions and culture of the countries. During the project the pupils visited museums, places of national importance, factories (steel factory in Stalowa Wola, shipbuilding factory in Rostock), they also attended cultural events. The pupils worked in mixed groups. They developed topics, translated texts from native to foreign languages and taught each other. During the meetings various activities were organised: excursions, karaoke evenings with songs in Polish, German and English, dance lessons, quiz shows, sports events, cooking evenings. The pupils conducted all events in the three languages. The final product of the project is a conversation course book in Polish – Latvia – German and cassettes with dialogues. The cassettes and the books are available for the public.
