The Influence of the Pinata on Spanish Culture

The aim of this project was to enhance Spanish language learning centred on the piñata in Spanish/Mexican culture. It was intended that all school children would experience a true piñata breaking event. A differentiated program for the various class levels was established. Project work, groupwork, art and craft, music and drama were all used to facilitate the children’s learning. Emphasis was placed on use of Spanish as the medium for learning. The origins and meaning of the varying piñata customs were researched and studied.
