Promoting Academic Multilingualism

The higher education institutions in the city-state of Bremen have established a Centre of Foreign Languages to promote intercultural language skills. In the project, the potential of multilingual students with migrant backgrounds is used as a basis to develop further language skills and the ability to utilize their improved competences in their further studies and professional careers. The project promotes the development of academic language skills in the students’ respective native languages. So far, the project supports Turkish, Russian, Polish, and Kurdish, as well as German as second language and English. The different learning groups are brought together to improve multilingualism as well as their intercultural competence

  • focus on linking between VET qualifications that include language skills and the CEFR
