Deutsch und Tschechisch Hand in Hand

The project's goal was to seek common paths and to increase tolerance of other nationalities and cultures, with a focus on Czech-German relations. The linguistic similarities between Czech and German have survived in both languages until now, which is why the theme of proverbs was chosen. As part of the project, the students found German equivalents for Czech proverbs and vice versa. The proverbs were translated into English to make it easier for students from both countries to work on them together. The end result is a Czech-German dictionary of proverbs that includes graphics relating to the given proverb. The bilingual dictionary of proverbs is now used as a tuition supplement and as inspiration in other schools as well. The students spent two weeks in the homes of their partners' parents, where they had hands-on experience of the way of life and the customs in German and Czech families.
