Marahil: lire et écrire le monde arabe

The Distance Learning Courses French Institute (CNED) and the “Institut du Monde Arabe” have been working together since 2002 to create and promote documents for learners of every level. Marahil, which means “steps” in Arabic, shows the different kind of writing that can be found in Arabic modern cities. Three destinations have been chosen: Morocco (described by a student visiting the country with her family), Lebanon (explained by a journalist) and Egypt (illustrated by an archaeologist). Many techniques are being used on this project: knowledge tests, pictures, videos, animations and a keyboard using Arabic symbols that appears on the screen.

Consistency with the European policies in the field of language learning

  • promotion of new approaches to language teaching and learning
  • promotion of recognition and validation of language skills acquired through non formal and informal education
  • promotion of the development of teaching material for the learning of less widely spoken languages
