THE INITIATIVE PROMOTER’S PERSPECTIVE

Background

Many people among the older population are motivated and ambitious learners. Communication and interaction with the teacher and with other the course group is very significant for them. Thus learning means a social happening. The older population is also a heterogenic group whose age and educational backround varies a lot. There are also significant differences in physical and mental condition among the people as well as in their attitudes towards learning. All these facts motivated to start this project with a special approach to the target group of older population.

Objectives

The aim was to take into consideration the needs of the ever growing older population, and to take advantage of their experiences and points of view in the learning process. Thus the project is valuable in providing information about the learning methods and strategies of language learning.

Approach

The most important factor in the Golden memories- hotel method is the principle of real and authentic interaction and communication. The learning contents are taken from the learners' own experiences.
It is also important to develop the guidance procedures and learning methods for the elderly people in order to help them to recognise their strenghts when learning foreign languages.

Results
